(OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA) — The Black Action Alliance stands in grief and outrage with the family and loved ones of Carla Lee, whose life was stolen Monday evening in an act of devastating gun violence. Carla was murdered outside her home while simply picking up her niece and nephew from an after-school program—an ordinary act of care shattered by extraordinary violence.
Carla was a daughter, sister, auntie, and friend. Her absence will echo in the hearts of her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and the community she loved. We hold their sorrow with unshakable compassion.
But compassion alone is not enough. This is not normal. We cannot normalize it.
We mourn. We remember. We refuse to look away.
About the Black Action Alliance
BAA was formed to give a voice to the Black community in the Bay Area, whose views have historically been underrepresented in politics and policy. While many past leaders have claimed to represent our community, their actions have not aligned with our community’s needs. BAA supports common sense ideas that improve public safety, homelessness, the small business ecosystem, affordable housing, and quality public education, among other issues central to the Black Community.
